The Secret Traces Of Twin Flames
So onto the article! Today I wanted to share something different.
Did you know that the conception of Twin Flames is far from new?
Although people may not have called it by its modern name, the connection goes back a LONG way.
We can trace elements of Twin Flames to the anima/animus in Jung’s psychology of the unconscious, to ideas present in Hindu mythology, Ancient Egyptian mythology, in the Upanishads thousands of years ago... And to Ancient Greece!
And that’s what today’s article is about.

Twin Flames – A Story From Over 2500 Years Ago
This is a fascinating story that I’m sure will resonate with all Twin Flames:
In Plato’s Symposium, we are told about the “origins of love”. Aristophanes says:
In the beginning, humans were androgynous.
Not only did early humans supposedly have both genders’ sex organs, but they also had two faces, four hands and four legs.
They were like two humans combined.
According to the story, these beings were very fast and very powerful. In fact, they were SO powerful that the gods in Mount Olympus became worried…

Living As One Half Of A Whole…
Zeus, the king of the gods in Greek mythology, decided to weaken the humans to lessen their threat. So it was decided to cut them in two. The god Apollo was given the task of dividing these “double humans”.
And here is where Twin Flames will likely begin to feel a deep resonance with this story (which is likely metaphorical). Aristophanes says, the divided humans were very unhappy.
“[Each] one longed for its other half, and so they would throw their arms about each other, weaving themselves together, wanting to grow together.”
Zeus was finally moved to pity and decided to have their sexual organs turned to the front so that in embracing, they could unite in this way and feel better.

Calling Back The “Other Half” – Unconditional Love
Further in the symposium, Aristophanes speaks about love. Is love a cure for our “wound” of having been doomed to live divided? Of not, seemingly, being “complete”?
He says:
“Love is born into every human being; it calls back the halves of our original nature together; it tries to make one out of two and heal the wound of human nature.
Each of us, then, is a ‘matching half’ of a human whole…and each of us is always seeking the half that matches him.”
“[When] a person meets the half that is his very own,” he exclaims, “something wonderful happens: the two are struck from their senses by love, by a sense of belonging to one another, and by desire, and they don’t want to be separated from one another, not even for a moment.”

How To Get Into The “Best Version” Of Your Journey…
We are here from love, journeying from unity into seeming opposition only to reunite again. This can truly be an amazing experience once we learn to deal with the “baggage”, the negativity and the blocks that get triggered.
Above all, this story is a beautiful reminder that ingrained in the human experience is a desire to return to unity.
To feel ourselves recognized deeply and unconditionally loved by another, and to love them in return.
Many Twin Flames face challenges on their journey, but we also have a unique and heightened experience of love which most “regular people” never get to face. (I wrote an article about this, called “7 Reasons Why You’re Lucky To Be A Twin Flame”)
